Great Ytene

Great Ytene – “Away for Now
from Great Ytene EP
out 3 March 2014 on Bella Union
Great Ytene (pronounced ‘ee-ten’) formed in London in early 2013, and will release their self-titled EP in limited edition vinyl. The psychedelic sounds and rhythmic grooves of their first single, “Away for Now,” is what trip hop is all about.

Habits – “Splendor of Panic
from Unselves in Arrival
out 25 February 2014
Fuzzy psych rock driven by LA’s Dustin Krapes. I think I nearly had a seizure while looking at his tour dates. Habits will be at SXSW; put them on your list of bands to see.

Golden Glow – “The Scene
from Beauty / Duty EP
out 27 January 2014 on Bleeding Gold
London-based Golden Glow is driven by Pierre Hall and cast of contributors during live performances.  This is great jangly material for fans of the C86 sound. Pre-order Beauty/Duty on cassette here.

The Thons – “Thirty Foot Snake
from Thirty Foot Snake
released 13 January 2014
Chicago bar punks’ self-release cuts out the middle man, buy here.

Future Islands – “Seasons (Waiting on You)”
from Singles
out 25 March 2014 on 4AD
This is the first single from their debut album with 4AD. They got their start in our lovely hamlet of Greenville, NC; now based in Baltimore, the trio have teamed up with long-time collaborator filmmaker Jay Buim for the official music video for ‘Seasons (Waiting On You)’.

Beck – “Blue Moon”
from Morning Phase
out 25 February 2014
Beck’s latest incarnation recalls his Sea Change era, as he draws on the themes of loneliness and yearning. The use of mandolin, synths, and soaring harmonies add to this track’s ethereal qualities.

Montmartre – “Tell My Body I’ve Gone”
from Vacate EP
released 20 January 2014
This London trio finds the pop/rock vein in the glitchrock that Radiohead pioneered.

Mac Demarco – “Passing Out Pieces”
from Salad Days
out 1 April 2014
Demarco does little to shake his slacker rock image in this video. Apparently, he’s a fan of the two states hosting the “Super Bowl” this year. Details about the album here.

Cheers…
