Throwback Thurs.: Guided By Voices

This year, we are going to feature some of the “old school” acts that influenced the writers of this blog. Craig and I recently belted out “Bull Dog Skin” while jamming over the winter break. So Guided By Voices seemed like a worthy candidate to kick off our first “Throwback Thursday.”

Terse, guitar driven rock featuring the lyrically gifted vocalist and songwriter Robert Pollard, Guided By Voices was among a handful of bands that defined the music fringe of the 1990’s, as pioneers of lo-fi alternative rock. Emerging out of Dayton, Ohio in the early 1980s, the original lineup reformed in 2010 and has since recorded four albums. A fifth, Motivational Jumpsuit, is due out in February. A rumored sixth album, Cool Planet, will be out  later in 2014 on Fire Records.
