Muralismo – “Wild Eyed Friend” [mp3]
from Muralismo, out July 9th (bandcamp)
Taking their name from an artistic movement that focused on aspects of everyday life, this is fine chamber pop from San Francisco featuring the words and music of Mark David Ashworth. This tune is a lovely & exquisite composition, with nice mix of woodwinds and electric guitar.
Banana Beach – “Mobile Homes” [mp3]
from Window Licking EP, out now
With bananas and beaches not being very prevalent around their native Stockholm, this quintet signifies in their name a certain “yearning for change and happiness”. Their music is 80’s inspired indie pop – dreamy ear candy.
Tunng – “The Village” [stream]
from Turbines, released July 17th: this track available as free download with e-mail registration
London stalwarts of experimental folk pop drop a new album that once again reinvents their sound; it’s amazing that each member of this band evolves seemingly independently across albums, but yet they continue to gel like a natural but rare amalgamation.
The Mantles – “Hello” [mp3]
from Long Enough to Leave, released June 18th on Slumberland Records
Infectious Bay area garage pop.
Germany Germany – “Youth” [mp3]
from forthcoming FREE album to be released later this summer.
Sunny electro-pop made for riding with the top down.
Young Readers – “Boxcar” [mp3]
from Family Trees, out now (free download on bandcamp)
Calming and charming Oklahoma Americana; the album comes with a set of crayons, so you can color the cover as you fancy.
