The Morning Mail: 10-Nov-12

An abbreviated edition from the road this morning has sights and sounds from Abbe May, Sufjan Stevens, and Wake Owl. Enjoy!

Abbe May – “Karmageddon”
from Kiss My Apocalypse
out April 2013
This single was released early this week, and it’s a bit of a departure from Western Australia’s guitar-toting siren. Karmageddon is darker, almost noirish, with an intense electronic vibe. Check out the video below.

Wake Owl – “Gold”
from Wild Country (EP)
out now on Vagrant
This beautiful piece of folk-inspired pop was recently featured on Grey’s Anatomy and has garnered a fair bit of attention in just five days. Wake Owl is the brainchild of Colyn Cameron, who divides his time between Vancouver and Portland.  Originally from southern California, Cameron (23 years old) started writing songs around age 16. He studied organic agriculture in England, has spent the past several years working on farms in the UK, Chile, Germany, and Canada. His travels abroad serve as inspiration for Wild Country.

Sufjan Stevens – “Silver & Gold”
from Silver & Gold, Songs for Christmas Vol. 10
out 13 November
Sufjan loves Christmas, we all know that. His latest is mystical and pensive. Quiet pianos and doubled over vocals create a chilly, winter vibe.
