Sunday Ramblings & Considerations: 04-NOV-12

Yeah, it’s been a whole week since we last posted something. Sorry about that. We’re juggling things at our real jobs, so the blog goes to the back burner. Thankfully, we have boatload of stuff to go through and we’ll be posting over this week  to catch up. I guess the only thing I can say is,
“I’ll promise to keep rockin’ and rollin’… and making better films.”

In this edition: Sounds from Black Lizard, Loplop, Majestico, Pond, and The Sweet Serenades. Sights from Jason Isbell and 400 unit, Loplop, Pond, and the Sweet Serenades.

Consider These:

Black Lizard – “Dead Light”
Single
out now on Soliti
“Dead Light”, the first Soliti single from Black Lizard, is grungie psychedelic garage material. The Helsinki quartet cites Brian Jonestown Massacre and Spacemen 3 as influences.

Loplop – “Travel In The Night”
from Loplop EP
out now on Bandcamp
Loplop’s debut is influenced by the jangle pop sounds of the C86 tape. See the video below.

Majestico – “Bright White Lady”
from Love Is God
out now on Jeffrey Drag Records
Fuzzed out guitars, a little too much compression on this track, but it has that bar room feel that’s so rare these days.  Kind of sounds like Kiss covering BTO…suddenly I am seven years old and in the back of my parents’ Chrysler Newport.

Pond – “Eye Pattern Baldness”
from Beard, Wives, Denim
out now on Modular
Thanks to our friend Drew for the tip. This marks the fourth studio album from psychedelic Aussie outfit Pond, a cousin, and not a side project (as they are quick to point out) from friends and members of the band, Tame Impala.  Bears, Wives, Denim is awash with acid-tinged jams, full of sonic delights to glaze the ears and tickle the hypothalamus. Watch the video for “Fantastic Explosion of Time” below.

The Sweet Serenades – “I Can’t Get Enough”
from HELP ME!
out now
This is the second single shared by the Swedish duo whose  “Balcony Cigarettes” was one of our faves from 2009. This one sounds like a lo-fi Cars tune. If you like absurd tongue-in-cheek behavior, check out the video below.

Videos, videos, videos

Jason Isbell & 400 Unit – “Danko/Manuel”
on Live From Alabama
out 19 November on Lightning Rod Records
There’s great atmosphere on this track. So excited to hear more Live stuff from Isbell.

Loplop – “Travel In The Night”
from the Loplop EP
out now on Bandcamp

Pond – “Fantastic Explosion of Time”
from Beard, Wives, Denim
out now on Modular
Spacey psych groover that will blow your mind now as much as it would 40 years ago.
