This morning we have tracks from Fenster, Guilty Ghosts, Marika Hackman, Mt. Wolf, and Pony Boy. Our feature video is The Whigs performing recently on the Letterman Show. Enjoy!
Fenster – “Oh Canyon” Slow Steve Remix
out now on Morr Music
I am not always a fan of remixes, but this one doesn’t butcher the song, and does a great job of emphasizing what was good about the original. Check that out here. They’re slated to play CMJ and a couple of other dates on the east coast in October.
Guilty Ghosts – “Wailing Wall”
out now on Bandcamp
It’s been about a year since the release of Veils, and Guilty Ghosts (aka Tristan O’Donnell) is back with Trespasser. It’s a collection of ambient, post rock instrumental material that mines its sound from layers of electric guitar riffs, arpeggios, and rhythms. Pay what you want or purchase a limited edition Trespasser CD-R here.
Marika Hackman – “These Days” (Nico cover)
from Covers EP
out now get it here
Marika Hackman is heading out on tour, following the release of her debut double A-Side “You Come Down” and “Mountain Spines”. She’s prepared a five song EP of covers to share. A nice spin on this one, and I love the subtle accordion. Is that a mandolin, I hear too?
Mt. Wolf – “Cry Wolf”
from Life Size Ghosts EP
out October 30 on Two Sisters Records
Crazy dream folktronica from this four-piece living South of London. Peep the whole EP here. If you’re in London, consider going to the EP Launch at Corsica Studios on October 30.
Pony Boy – “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings”
(Father John Misty Cover)
Pony Boy is Marchelle Bradanini whose sultry vocals light up this Father John Misty cover. She’s also streaming her recent single, “Not in this Town” on SoundCloud. Pony Boy describes her genre as “Junkyard Country Soul Wop Blues.” She’ll be performing at Joe’s Pub in NYC as part of The New Yorker Festival on October 6.
The Whigs – “Waiting”
from Enjoy the Company
Live on Letterman
Ever wonder what Sonic Youth would sound like with Neil Young fronting it? Here it is… funny I never thought that about the Whigs before today. They really churn this one out.
