Rain from the Cloud: 07.18.12

The 1975 – “The City”
from Facedown EP
Available on iTunes August 6 UK / August 7 US & CAN

Exciting new band out of Manchester (UK). ‘The City’ is the lead track from their forthcoming debut ‘Facedown’ EP.

Astrid Swan – “Box Elder”
out now
“Box Elder” is taken from Astrid Swan’s album Hits (Pavement For Girls) released on 8/17/2011. While the Pavement reference is nice, “Box Elder” has a dreamy feel that lies out in the ether somewhere. Get the free download while you can. Purchase the album here.

Menomena – “Heavy Is As Heavy Does”
from Moms out 9/18 on Barsuk
Menomena is now a duo as Brent Knopf left to focus on his solo project.  Justin Harris and Danny Seim are manning the ship now, expect Moms to be dark and noisy.

Tall Ships – “Gallop”
A pulsing, rollicking track full of emotion, as if Morrissey fronted Mumford  & Sons with a pinch of Doves added to the concoction. Taken from the forthcoming debut Tall Ships album, Everything Touching, due out 10/8 via Big Scary Monsters/Blood And Biscuits.

The New Tigers – “Pocketful of Sand”
Released via Soliti on 9/21/11
Worldwide digital release on 7/30/12
Finnish act with fuzzy guitars and dreamy vocals: shoegaze meets grunge. Very nice. Mentioned their label mates, Top Sound in Monday’s post.

Cheers…
