Rain from the Cloud: 05.17.12

Delicate Steve – “Two Lovers” (free download)
NY-based multi-instrumentalist Delicate Steve (aka Steve Marion) releases his second single off of the Positive Force LP, out July 10 with Luaka Bop. “Two Lovers” features a beautiful bass line that’s supported by simple multi-instrumental melody. It’s a wistful, easy tune that reminds us summer is nearly here.

King Washington – “Fourth of July” (free download)
This track opens with a killer guitar lick that one doesn’t always hear on a power pop tune. Great harmonies, nice arrangement, and a bit of Beatles influence makes “Fourth of July” worth replaying and downloading. King Washington’s debut, Gears, is set for release on June 5.

Norwegian Arms – “Tired of Being Cold”
Norwegian Arms is comprised of Brendan Mulvihill and Dr. Dog’s Eric Slick.  “Tired of Being Cold” is the first song off their upcoming LP Wolf Like A Stray Dog to be released later this year. The entire album was by Mulvihill while living deep in Siberia, in the city of Tomsk. The title of the song reflect Mulvihill’s frustration with the extreme cold of the Siberian winter. This picture stands in stark contrast to the song’s tempo and feel, which is upbeat and bright.

Of the Opera – “Lost in the Ravine” (free download)
Brooklyn, Brooklyn… Too many cool bands from Brooklyn and the duo, Of the Opera, is one of them. Their new single “Lost in the Ravine” oozes 80’s new wave with pop leanings.  Love the back and forth vocals and arrangement on this track. Despite it’s frenetic pace, it has a catchy melody. Hopefully, we’ll hear more from Robert Bock and Matthew Tenney soon.

Simian Mobile Disco – “Seraphim” (free download)
The electronic masters put together another proper house jame with Seraphim. Their latest album, Unpatterns, is out now.

Summer Camp – “Life”
Summer Camp will release the EP, Always, on July 10. “Life” opens as a slow burner, but quickly becomes dance floor material. It would’ve made Donna Summer (RIP) proud.

Villa Kang – “Touch of Evil” (free download)
This was the nicest surprise in the inbox this week.  “Touch of Evil” is the first release from the new EP by alt-pop producer/musician Villa Kang. A psychedelic dance groove drives the track as Kang croons about a shady mystery lady. LOVE IT!

Cheers…
