An abbreviated edition as we’re busy honoring the mothers of our children and ourselves. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms out there!
The Rest to release See Saw
We’ve received some great news from the Canadian band, The Rest. This post-rock outfit has targeted June 19 as the release date for their long awaited LP, See Saw. In anticipation of this event, The Rest is offering a free single each week. This week’s single is “Laughing Yearning”, an ebullient track with a driving tropical beat and beautifully reverbed guitars. Go to their Bandcamp site and bookmark it to get more free tracks in the coming weeks. While you are there, preview “Who Knows,” “Hey! For Horses,” and “Always On My Mind.”

Discover: Fort Frances
We’re really digging Fort Frances. The Chicago-based three piece was originally a solo project of singer/songwriter David McMillin, and now includes bassist Jeffrey Piper and drummer Aaron Kiser. Piper and Kiser also contribute on vocals.
Atlas represents two years of effort on the part of this trio, and it was time well spent. The production quality is excellent. It’s hard to imagine it as a solo act, because the tracks are rich with texture and depth. Atlas is available to stream through Bandcamp. You can also pick up free mp3s for the tracks “Falling Down” on Bandcamp and “Hard Earned Heart” on Facebook.

Fort Frances were recently featured on Daytrotter, where they performed 8 songs, and in a Halfway House Session, where they performed 3 tracks. We link to “Falling Down” from the Halfway House Session below:
