Sunday Ramblings & Considerations: 01.29.12

In this edition: Discover The Last Names and Young Fathers, consider the music blog Indie Ambassador, and this week’s videos!

Discover: The Last Names

The Last Names are probably familiar to you. As 2/5 of Bishop Allen, Justin Rice and Darbie Nowatka enjoy music that builds off the classic sounds of early 60s pop radio, making catchy pop tunes with upbeat compositions. It appears the duo are on break from Bishop Allen, moving from their hip confines in Brooklyn to upstate NY.

They are planning to release Wilderness this spring, and are offering a free, three track preview through Bandcamp. In addition to the preview, they have ambitious plans. Rice and Nowatka intend to release a cover a week for the entire year. So far, they’ve kept their promise.

Discover: Young Fathers

Recalling masters of the late eighties/early nineties, hip hop’s  “golden age”, Young Fathers is daring fun. Tape One establishes the hip hop outfit as the heir apparent to the Native Tongues Collective, which featured De La Soul, Leaders of the New School, and A Tribe Called Quest.  The Scottish-based act is a long way from Long Island, but catch the vibe of these seminal acts to create inspiring, intelligent hip hop.

Get Tape One as a free download or purchase a limited edition cassette through Bandcamp.

Consider: Indie Ambassador

We are loving a blog called Indie Ambassador. They invite bands into their studio to film live video sessions. Check out their recent session with Maps & Atlases:
