Pick Up On: Brice Woodall

Chicago’s Brice Woodall draws inspiration from Kurosawa films, Murakami novels, and Japanese anime.  While stark, surreal, and deeply personal, his songs are magnetic and penetrating.  The Id Escaped EP is a very impressive collection of six songs that touch on identity & aspirations, guilt, self-doubt, and paranoia.  The music mixes elements of post-rock, electronic, and ambient, and Brice sounds like a psychedelic version of Gary Numan.
