Rain from the Cloud: 11.02.11

Some choice SoundCloud streams with downloads to consider this week:

AptekaStriking Violet from Gargoyle Days released 10/31
–Post-rock bordering on metal from this Chicago-based quartet. Album was released on Halloween, perfect pairing.

Baby Baby London Bridges from Money
out now on Gospel of Rhythm Recordings
–Yet another track from Baby Baby, who continue to roll forward with their excellent 2011 release. London Bridges has an early ’70s Jersey feel to it.

Robin BaciorI Hate The States from Rest Our Wings
out Nov. 1 on Consonants & Vowels
–A “road song” marked by Bacior’s rich vocals and use of traditional instruments

Marissa NadlerThe River (Springsteen Cover)
from Covers Vol. II out Nov. 8 on Box of Cedar Records
–Delicately beautiful, Nadler does a great job covering one of the Boss’s greatest songs.

Stealing SheepPaper Moon from Noah and the Paper Moon
out now on Heavenly Recordings
–Quirky, eerie and delightful, this psycho-folk trio sound like a modern coven as they preside over jangly guitars, moody keys, and bouncy rhythms.  Get a three track sampler free, here.

The ZolasCultured Man from new split 7″ with the Liptonians,
out now through Light Organ Records.
–This track meanders from dark, post-rock to dance pop. You have to stick with it. It’s like finding $10 in your jeans just before you wash them.
