REVIEW: NERVES JUNIOR – “As Bright As Your Night Light”

On heavy rotation at the moment is the album, As Bright As Your Night Light from Nerves Junior, released on September 6.  This is an exceptional debut from the Louisville-based quartet, that will no doubt end up on several ‘best of’ lists.

Marked by exceptional guitar work, As Bright As Your Night Light delivers a post-rock infusion of electronic beats, diverse syncopated percussion, and precision sampling. Vocalist Cory Wayne provides ballast to this roaring vessel, whether delivering poignant emotion or rage–he’s clearly the man for this band. Highlights include the excellent title track; hypnotic Champagne & Peaches; the guitar punch of Swimmer’s Ear and personal fave, Nails to Scratch With; the plaintive In Absentia, and the hook-laden Kale. This is a rich set of nine tracks that demand attention and repeat play.

Score: 87/100 (A must buy for 2011)
