The New 08.09.11

Some NEW for you…

Blitzen Trapper: Love the Way You Walk Away
from American Goldwing
Release date: September 13 (Subpop)

Let’s hope that this a harbinger of things to come.  The folked out sons of Gram Parsons are pickin’ and a grinnin’ with a little spacey sounding pedal steel to round it all out. Eric Earley is at his best when he’s free and easy. It’s no Black River Killer, but it will do. (3/5)

Fool’s Gold: Street Clothes from Leave No Trace
Release date: August 16th (IAMSOUND)

80’s synthpop/dance pop fusion track that makes five minutes pass by fast. Fans of Twin Shadow will dig this. (4/5)
—

Gold Beach: Diving Bell from Habibti
Release date: September 6 (self-release)

Super spooky reverb drives this track by the Austin sextet. Digital album is avaialble for immediate download on Bandcamp . (3.5/5)
—

Halloween, Alaska: Empire Waist from All Night the Calls Came In
Release date: August 30th (Amble Down)

A pleasant tune that hearkens back to the Finn brothers and their brand of indie pop. (3.5/5)
—

Peter Wolf Crier: Settling It Off from Garden of Arms
Release date: September 6 (Jagjaguwar)

They’re back and this track has a super arrangement, keys set the mood, but it’s the constant tambourine rhythm that keep this track chilly. (3.5/5)
—

Princess Chelsea: The Cigarette Duet from Lil’ Golden Book
Release date: September 6 (Lil’ Chief Records)

Hurray for Kiwi royalty, as she does retro right from the carousel keys to the high-pitched reverbed guitars.  The playful repartee between Princess Chelsea and Jonathan Brunette is priceless.  (4.5/5)
—

Sandro PerriLove & Light from Impossible Spaces
Release date: October 18 (Constellation)

A mix of South American rhythms rumble over disparate ambient tones and classical guitar, as Perri beautifully croons over it all. (4/5)
—

Wild FlagRomance from Wild Flag
Release date: September 13 (Merge)

It’s not Sleater Kinney, but it’s better than most of the retro female bands (take heed Dum Dum Girls) that have emerged in the last couple of years.  Carrie Brownstein’s guitar sharply plays over the harmonies and bop beat of this track.  Lots of fun, and hopefully more follows soon.  (4.5/5)

Cheers…
