On the Radar: Southerly

Here is an artist who is truly “on the radar” and approaching fast.

Southerly is the moniker of Krist Krueger from Portland.  Krueger will release his third LP, Youth, September 20 on Greyday Records.  Krueger shows a lot of confidence in his new material by offering a song a week from Youth until its release.  What’s available is nothing short of fantastic.

Often dark, Krueger’s compositions rely heavily on adept multi-tracking of samples, instruments, and vocals.  Krueger does not settle on a sound, rather each track becomes an exploration.  From the stark Rejoice to the complex and ethereal Everything Perfect All Of The Time, these early releases demonstrate great range and production quality. Even more remarkable is the fact that Krueger spent a week and a half recording Youth.  He must have pulled several 20 hour days during that span.
