Arctic Death are an indie/garage three-piece from East Aurora, NY. The band–singer/bassist John Crook, guitarist Steven Floyd, and drummer Harrison Scott Crook–formed in 2009. Their focus is simplicity and their sound is raw and immediate. The song “Golden” was released on June 14th and recorded live without overdubs. The ethic may be DIY, but the arrangement is nice and the vocal harmonies impressive, especially considering it was all done in one-take. This reminds me of some of my favorite Athens bands from the ’90’s such as Mercyland and Five-Eight.
Their self-titled debut album will be released as a vinyl LP (and digitally) next week.
