Love Me Some Cotton Jones

There’s something oddly attractive about the music of Cotton Jones.  It’s not kitschy, but it has a retro feel that is reminiscent of the late ’50’s/early 60’s era of country music.   Michael Nau’s raspy, western Maryland drawl adds a dimension that is at once odd and intriguing.  I don’t know how to best describe his singing, but it is nothing like I’ve ever heard, and I love it.  Whitney McGraw’s vocals are more traditional.  She could fill up a room with her voice, which is like a combination of Hope Sandoval and Patsy Cline.  The couple (they are married as well) offer something uniquely traditional and timeless on the hazy Tall Hours in the Glowstream (2010).  They’ve made four tracks for you to sample and download here (be sure to use the down arrow to download on SoundCloud).
