The morning mail for Saturday includes sounds from Flock of Dimes, Yellow Ostrich, Young Circles, and Zolas. Plus vids from Efterklang and White Rabbits.
Listen:
Flock of Dimes – “(This is Why) I Can’t Wear White”
7″ b/w “15″
out November 20 on French Kiss
The third single and final planned release from Jenn Wasner’s (Wye Oak) solo project features her smoky, ethereal vocals over a beautiful cacophony of synth, guitar notes, and a lonely tom. She takes off a bit of the edge, but this track endures long after the last note is played. It’s hard to believe she is only 26, so much more in store from her!

Yellow Ostrich - “Ghost”
from Ghost (EP)
out October 23 on Barsuk
Apparently, Alex Schaaf can’t stay out of the studio. A bit toned down, a bit reminiscent of his fellow Wisconsinite, Bon Iver. It’s definitely a nice change of pace.
Young Circles – “Ocean III Below”
Single
out now on Bandcamp (pay what you want)
Spacey, experimental stuff from the Miami outfit that cites The Beatles, Basketball & Baja Sauce as influences. It transfers you into a mini-sub that patrols a lonely reef somewhere on the ocean floor. The evolved Yellow Submarine? Quite possibly…
The Zolas – “Knot In My Heart”
from Ancient Mars
out now on Organ Records
A solid pop tune from this Vancouver duo, that balances noise with melody. I have this album scheduled for a full listening session this weekend–looking forward to it!
Watch:
Efterklang – “Apples”
from Piramida
out now on Rumraket
Wow! When did John Waters start singing for Efterklang? Great tune, video tries too hard.
White Rabbits – “I’m Not Me”
from Milk Famous
out now on TBD Records
Love the ELO feel of this tune. There is something sinister occurring!

Cheers…
