Oh, it’s Sunday, and we’re already an hour behind. This edition features: Information about ECU’s Festival of New Music, Blogophilia 26.5, considerations, and videos for the week.
This Week We Celebrate!
East Carolina University’s
11th Annual Festival of New Music
We are lucky to live in a community that has a university with a fantastic College of Fine Arts & Communication. The schools of Art & Design, Music, and Theatre & Dance enrich our community so much. This week is a prime example, as we celebrate the Eleventh Annual Festival of New Music. The festival hosts a series of nine performances by local, national and international artists. The schedule also includes master classes with visiting composers, performers, reading sessions of student composers’ works, open rehearsals, and discussion forums with composers. Most of the events are free, and all are open to the public.
We are especially excited for Sunday’s performance, marc faris’ An Alternative Community. This is a large-scale composition by ECU Professor of Music, marc faris. Drawing influence from classical, rock, and improvisational music, the performance brings together music, dance, and the visual arts to celebrate “the spirit of collective effort.” This will be a true community event, so bring a blanket, a picnic basket, and your families to enjoy a wonderful day at Greenville’s Town Common on the Tar River.

We hope to see you out there!

Blogophilia 26.5
Yes, you read this correctly. Sometimes, we are faced with more songs than we can fit in one volume. When that occurs, we have .5 mix. We’ve had two other half mixes, 8.5 and 12.5. Yeah, it’s been awhile.

Consider these…
- Did you see our feature on the Paper Crane Collective @tsururadio yesterday? We’re doing a column called Station-to-Station that explores the music scene of cities in the U.S. and around the world.
- Fans of Neutral Milk Hotel will love this feature in the Guardian. It discusses the influence of the band and the Elephant Six on modern US music.
