To poorly plagiarize Rick James, “Jet lag is a hell of an experience.” I was pretty much out of touch with the world for three weeks while in Australia and it was great. Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, hiking the Outback, and checking out prehistoric caves with Aboriginal art were among the highlights of this experience. Did I mention I get paid to do this? I guess Bob Dylan was wrong about twenty years of school–it can get you more than the day shift.
I scouted and mixed this compilation during my jet lagged insomnia from the early hours of Saturday morning (I arrived home at midnight after 31 hours of travel (including layovers)) through now. I scoured the sites I normally visit weekly in a few days, and through then did my usual grind of listening and whittling on those nights filled with insomnia. I think I was lucky that there were several good tunes featured while I was away. Regardless, Blogo 19 is finished and I am happy to say that I actually slept for 9 hours on Monday night, and now feel normal enough to tie up some loose ends I left behind.
I am really excited with the tracks on this compilation because it means we will see new albums by The Roots, Arcade Fire, Menomena, and Kanye West (who really stepped it up with the single featured here). Of course, there are always tracks from current releases. I held back on earlier Blogos and included overdue tracks from Caribou, Frightened Rabbit, Future Islands, and The Middle East. Tracks from current albums by The Dead Weather, T0bacco, Joy Formidable, Future Islands, and the Earth Program are also featured. Of course there are also tracks from bands I am just discovering, these include songs by Karen Elson, Math and Physics Club, Freelance Whalers, Coltrane Motion, Tame Impala (from Western Australia), and Wintersleep. A fair mix of old and new artists are on this volume.
AS ALWAYS… RIGHT CLICK/SAVE AS ON THE ART WORK BELOW.
Enjoy!
